About the event
The project involved the full gut renovation of the 5th and 6th floor of the Aaron building at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. The 5th and 6th floors of the Aaron building are each approximately 13,000 GSF and the existing space contained medical acute inpatient nursing units and office spaces. These floors were converted into two modern adult inpatient behavioral health units.
The following are the learning objectives of this seminar:
- The importance of understanding the building structure including but not limited to the slab construction, beam locations and sizes etc. early in the design process.
- The importance of understanding the existing MEP infrastructure and the changes needed to the infrastructure to support the program space early in the design process.
- The importance of guidelines such as the New York State Office of Mental Health standards in the design of Behavioral Health type spaces.
- The importance of coordination with all stakeholders such as owners, end users, architects, structural engineers, trade consultants, construction manager, building engineering operations throughout the design process.
