This year, like many of you, I started out the New Year by setting new goals for both my personal and professional life. One of my professional goals is to manage my time more effectively. To satisfy my Masters Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) designation, I must show evidence of continuous education. I do this through various strategies but most cost me both time and travel dollars to achieve.
This year through the vision and leadership of Gary Hamilton of SmithgroupJJR, I learned that I could participate and help guide a new chapter affiliation with the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) and form a chapter right here in my own professional location. This will help me to gain the knowledge that I need to support my career, allow me to attend timely training and avoid the expense of flying. What a deal!
Several of us have been working behind the scene to make sure we follow the requirements of ASHE to become a full fledged chapter. It’s exciting work! Several strategies are key to our success.
These strategies include building our membership and making sure that the learning opportunities we provide are timely and important to you. While we have had great participation from our vendor communities, we still have a ways to go to foster the membership of our healthcare participants. In the next few weeks we will be reaching out to those in our immediate healthcare community and hope that you will join us for this exciting journey.
We are also in the beginning stages of coordinating learning opportunities that will add value and support your efforts as facility and safety professionals.
Some of the topics of interest include:
--Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) adoption of the 2012 Edition of NFPA
--Technologies that foster improvements in reducing Hospital Acquired Infections
--SAFER methodology the new Joint Commission strategy
--Managing energy and sustainability
--ASHRAE and ASHE connection and impact
--Facility management and the direct connection to HCAHPS scores
We are also offering our first annual Golf Tournament on June 23rd, Clifton Virginia.
We hope that you will make the National Capital Region – Society of Healthcare Engineers a professional priority and join us for this journey to establish ourselves as an affiliation of ASHE.
